Poker Terms and Poker Slang: Blind to Busted

A number of words not typically used in everyday conversations are known as poker terms, poker expressions or poker slang.

Note: The poker terms defined in this list does not include any swear words or any type of offensive language. Also, this list does not include any commonly used acronyms, abbreviations or initialisms that I already covered in my series of articles titled: Poker Acronyms, Abbreviations and Initialisms.

Terms are listed in alphabetical order.

Blind: a mandatory bet required before any cards are dealt. Hold'em games have two blinds: small or little blind which is the first player to the left of the dealer button and big blind which is the second player to the left of the dealer button.

Blocker: a card held by one player in an Omaha or Texas Hold'em game that is needed to make another players poker hand.

Bluff: to play a hand as if it is a better ranked hand through betting or raising in order to get the other players out of the pot.

Board: an actual board that lists players waiting to play specific poker games. Or the face up (community) cards on the poker table that each player can use to make poker hands.

Boardcards: can refer to any face up cards in poker games, such as the community cards in Hold'em poker games. Or the face up cards dealt to players in Stud poker games.

Boat (Full Boat): slang for a full house.

Bottom Pair: When Hold'em players have one card in their hand that makes a pair with the lowest card among the community cards.

Bring it in: the initial bet in a poker game.

Bring-In: is the mandatory first bet in Stud poker games.

Broadway: An Ace-high straight.

Bump: slang term for raise.

Buried (Stuck): a slang term used when a player has lost significantly.

Busted: used when a player misses a flush or straight draw. Or refers to a player loosing all their chips in tournament play.
